According to dictionary.com, a miracle is defined as:

such an effect or event manifesting or considered as a work of God.
a wonder; marvel.
a wonderful or surpassing example of some quality.
Miracles sound kinda cool, don’t you think? Do you believe you have ever witnessed a miracle? Apparently we all have, just by waking up each day and looking in the mirror. There we are, a wonder; marvel; miracle.
Some scientists say the odds of you or me being born were 1 in 400 trillion. I don’t know about you but I can’t win a cake walk with four other people walking. Here’s another example of the odds given by Dr. Ali Binazir, “So what's the probability of your being born? It's the probability of 2.5 million people getting together -- about the population of San Diego -- each to play a game of dice with trillion-sided dice. They each roll the dice -- and they all come up the exact same number -- say, 550,343,279,001.” To help me put this into a little more perspective in my own life, in 2009 when I was diagnosed with cancer, my oncologist, at my insistence, told me the survival odds for my type of cancer. 40% odds I’d live 5 years and 25% odds I’d live for 10 years. I was pretty sure I was going to die, partly based on my terrible luck with cake walks.
I don’t know about you, but now that I’m aware of these mind boggling odds of existing, I’m going to focus on waking up each day and acknowledging the miracle of existing and living. I know myself pretty well, so I know the euphoria should last about a week. Once somebody cuts me off in traffic, or I have another pile of cat puke to clean, or I need to sit down and pay bills, I’ll quickly forget what a miracle I am. So, in one week, I’ll need this reminder:
“We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born.” - Richard Dawkins, Evolutionary biologist and author.
I am lucky to be alive, and so are you.
What are you going to do with your miracle?
